Resolution of the Moors

To All Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greetings.


Whereas, there are many sons and daughters of that proud and handsome race which inspired the architecture of Northern Africa and carried into Spain the influence of its artistic temperament that have become citizens of this Nation, and


Whereas, in the Borough of Brooklyn, County of Kings, City and State of New York there exists a Moorish Mosque, formerly The Moorish Science Temple of America, Inc Temple #66; made up of Moors who have found here the end of their quest for a home and of the children of those who journeyed here from the plains of Morocco, and


Whereas, this organization has done much to bring about a thorough absorption by these people of those principles which are necessary to make them good American citizens, and


Whereas, this organization has been awarded in recognition of outstanding and devoted service to the life and people of New York City, and


Whereas, these Americans of Moorish Ancestry have since being here missed the use of the names and titles that were so familiar at home and which are used in accordance with the doctrines of the Islamic faith to which they are adherents, and


Whereas, a National Registry (DataMoor.org) and Charity (Zakat)  for Muslim people of Moorish Ancestry of American birth and of slave ancestry, residing in the United States of America; members of the world community of Muslims and of Islamic Faith; Whose ancestors were unlawfully and forcefully brought to the shores of America against their will and were enslaved; and were eventually freed through the Thirteenth Amendment of 1865; as set forth that all men are created free and equal and are entitled to life, liberty, property, and justice is hereby established, now therefore be it,


Resolved, that this Administration recognize the Moorish Mosque for the efficient service it has rendered the Nation in bringing about a speedy and thorough Americanization of these former Moors and that in accordance with the fullest right of religious freedom guaranteed every American citizen, we recognize also the right of these people to use the name affixes El or Bey or Ali or any other prefix or suffix to which they have heretofore been accustomed to use or which they may hereafter acquire the right to use.


In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed the Seal of the Grand Sheikh of the said Moorish Mosque this 22nd day of July 2017, in the Borough of Brooklyn, County of Kings, City and State of New York.
